What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is natural process; we go in and out of hypnosis all the time. Every time you focus down your attention you enter a kind of hypnotic trance, for example: running, dancing, or you probably have had experience of driving to a destination and not having much of recollection of the journey- that’s hypnotic amnesia. Hypnosis is like parallel awareness; you know where you are at present but at the same time you are very focused on the internal world of sensations, imagination and memories.
Hypnotic trance is where learning and creativity naturally occurs and where the subconscious is more readily accessed and the change can happen effortlessly and immediately. Hence it is a very powerful psychological tool!
Hypnotism is not a new concept at all but it’s been used for hundreds of years, maybe even thousands! Back in the 1800’s when anesthesia was not available Surgeon James Esdaile (1808–1859) used hypnosis as a sole anesthesia to perform thousands of surgeries. Pretty incredible, right?
If you have ever watched stage hypnosis, scratch the whole thought of it! Hypnotherapy is not about me having a control over you but quite the reverse: it is about you gaining control over your own life: your feelings and emotions, behaviour, releasing stress from your life and learning new responses.
Hypnosis is generally a wonderfully relaxing experience, however, how you respond to hypnotherapy, how many sessions are required and the results may vary.
